Biography:
Danielle Bemmels grew up in a small town in the UP of Michigan. She grew up in a large extended family who owns and operated a Christmas Tree Farm. She graduated from North Central High School in Powers, MI. After high school, Mrs. Bemmels attended Bay de Noc Community College. Then she went to Northern Michigan University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. After graduating in December, Mrs. Bemmels began her teaching career substitute teaching at North Central Elementary School. The next fall, Mrs. Bemmels was hired by the Howard Suamcio School District as a second grade teacher at Suamico Elementary.
Danielle enjoyed her time teaching second graders at Suamico. She taught second grade for three years and then taught a first-second grade loop. After that, she stayed in first grade and taught for a total of eleven years at Suamico Elementary. During her time at HSSD, Danielle was involved in many curriculum teams. Teaching literacy became a passion and she pursued a higher degree in literacy. In 2007, Danielle graduated with a Masters Degree in Language Arts with 316 Reading Teacher and 317 Literacy Specialist Licenses from Cardinal Stritch University.
Currently, Mrs. Bemmels is a Literacy Specialist for the Howard Suamico School District. She shares her time between Bay Port High School and Bay View Middle School. Her passion continues to be working with struggling learners. She is on many committees including Response to Intervention, Applied Literacy, and the Instructional Leadership Council. Mrs. Bemmels main focus this year will be to coach colleagues on secondary literacy, attend and create professional development opportunities for both Applied literacy and secondary literacy.
Danielle enjoys spending time with her family. She has two young daughters who keep her busy. In any free time she may find, Mrs. Bemmels enjoys running, reading and spending time with family and friends. Mrs. Bemmels spends time up at her parents and still contributes to her family by helping on the Christmas Tree Farm. She and her husband Bob like to be outside, camp, play with the kids and bike together. The girls will attend the Howard Suamico School District in the future!
